The Australian National University said on the 10th that the school's researchers' new findings on a group of proteins that help switch certain genes during hematopoiesis may help develop new and more effective breast cancer drugs.

The researchers revealed the working mechanism of a special group of proteins, the chromatin helicase DNA-binding protein (CHD), which constitutes the nucleosome remodeling deacetylase, which is involved in the replication of blood cells and stem cells. Some gene expression can be turned on or off. One of the proteins, CHD4, is associated with breast cancer, and the existing drugs for treating breast cancer are not specifically targeted at this protein.

Dr. Daniel Ryan of the John Curtin Medical Research Center at the Australian National University said that some of the breast cancer therapies currently in use are effective, but the mechanism is not clear. His research reveals the working mechanism of CHD4, which opens up the possibility of developing a super drug specifically for this protein to treat breast cancer. More precise targeted therapy will reduce the toxicity of the drug and reduce drug resistance.

"Gene switch" or help with breast cancer treatment

He said researchers still need to break down the enzyme to explore how different proteins work together to understand how complex molecular structures work.
