Microfluidic paper chips have been well received by researchers since they were presented by Harvard University's whiteside professor group. Due to its relatively low price, very fast detection and excellent portability, it is highly valued by microfluidics researchers.

The issue of water quality has always been a worldwide problem. Fast and efficient water quality testing is the current rigid demand. Heavy metal ions in water, such as copper ions, iron ions, nickel ions, cadmium ions, etc., if the content exceeds the standard, will affect the health of the drinker, so the detection of heavy metal ions in water is very important.

Professor Wei Shen of Monash University has a whimsy. If the corresponding heavy metal ion symbol is printed on the μ-PAD, such a paper microfluidic chip can transmit the test results and the water quality safety level in real time.

The paper chip can be conveniently used to quickly detect heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater, irrigation water and drinking water. Once the heavy metal ions in the water exceed the specified content, the paper chip will have a color reaction.

At the same time, the corresponding chemical symbols of the super heavy metal ions are displayed. This technology can be described as simple and sturdy but highly efficient. It can quickly detect whether the heavy metal ions in the water exceed the standard, does not require complicated and expensive equipment, does not require laboratory equipment, and does not require professional technicians to carry out the test. The identification of chemical elements can be used to detect water quality. It is a fast and reliable method for detecting heavy metals in water.
