Last year, pork exports in Sichuan increased by more than 20%

Yesterday, a reporter from Huaxi Dushi Bao learned from Chengdu Customs that in 2010, Sichuan exported a total of 23,000 tons of fresh, cold, and frozen pork (hereinafter referred to as pork), worth US$60.7 million, an increase of 25% and 20.1% over the same period of last year. On the whole, the scale of pork exports steadily increased throughout the year, and export prices have been running smoothly.

It is reported that there is a strong seasonal factor in pork exports, generally the third quarter is the export season. In the first three quarters of last year, the volume of pork exports continued to expand. In September, the export volume soared to 2,613 tons, which broke Sichuan's pork export trend and increased by 50% year-on-year, reaching the highest point of export scale since 2009.

In the fourth quarter, the export volume showed a tightening trend and the average monthly export volume fell back to about 2,000 tons. During the same period, the average export price was mainly between $2,400 and $2,800 per ton. The average export price in November was $2,853 per ton, which was an increase of 8.8% from the previous month and was the highest in the year.

According to statistics, Sichuan exported 12,000 tons of pork to Hong Kong in 2010, an increase of 26.7%, accounting for 52.2% of total exports. Hong Kong is the largest export market for Sichuan pork. In addition, last year, Hunan exported 24,000 tons of pork, an increase of 19.4%, accounting for 21.8% of the country's total exports over the same period, exceeding Sichuan as the largest exporter.
