The national science and technology research project completed by the Northwest A&F University, “The Research on the Establishment and Genetic Characteristics of the YS-type Wheat Temperature Sensitive Male Sterile Line†was recently approved by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology. In the breeding process of hybrid wheat, the male sterile three-line method breeding has high cost and is difficult to maintain purity; chemical heroic killer has high cost in hybrid wheat breeding, spraying technology is not easily mastered by farmers and environmental safety issues. After 13 years of unremitting efforts, the scientific research group led by Professor He Yanru of the Northwest A&F University has studied and explored the secondary systems of wheat light and temperature-sensitive male sterility, and finally found a chromosome short arm of wild spelt wheat. The temperature-sensitive male sterility gene invented a method for the easy introduction of this temperature-sensitive gene into common wheat and developed a YS wheat thermosensitive male sterile line adapted to the ecological conditions in the Huanghuai wheat region.
