Researchers can see high-resolution, non-interfering life processes such as circulation, respiration, or digestion, and can observe organs such as the brain, kidney, liver, or prostate in the tiny wounds. More importantly, the use of such a slim objective lens to observe animals can effectively reduce blood loss and osmotic pressure changes, and can be observed for a long time. Moreover, because the wounds at the surgical site are small, the survival rate of the animals used for the experiment is high, and the recovery is rapid, and can be continued for subsequent experiments such as observations in action.

Because slim objectives are true optical microscopes, they provide higher imaging performance than other in vivo imaging techniques such as fiber bundles or gradient index lenses. The slim objective lens has a high numerical aperture and water immersion, thus providing significant resolution and concentrating power in live imaging. Both objectives work at distances up to 200 microns. Moreover, such objectives have a transmittance of 62% to 78% in the visible and near-infrared (450-1000 nm) range, resulting in deeper optical penetration depths and higher quality images.
