The Pittland pig is an ancient pig breed native to Belgium. It became famous all over the world in the 1960s. The striking feature of the Pietrain is its lean meatiness, which is as high as 75%. However, due to the higher stress response, it has limited the use in the world. The earliest breeds that had been successfully improved by Pitlane were the Belgian Landraces (also known as Schwegern); Pieterland also played a different role in the breeding of other pig breeds. At present, although the Pietrain pigs are not common in China, they have begun to have a greater impact. The feeding effect in most areas is not ideal, mainly due to the influence of other factors besides stress factors. These influencing factors include: short body, short penis, difficult to communicate, and can only use artificial insemination; poor sexual desire; abnormal estrus in sows; dystocia during procreation; litter size is low. These factors together form a breeding obstacle for the Pietrain. In addition, the Pietrain pigs have a slow growth rate and have high feed nutrient requirements. According to the above characteristics, it is not easy to raise and use Pitran. Here are the main points of their feeding and management for reference. 1. Proper exercise for reserve male and female sows should be no less than 1 hour daily. 2. It is best to lay straw in the pens, and it is best not to keep them on the cement floor directly. 3. Because of its high lean meat percentage, the protein content of feed at all stages should be 2% to 4% higher than that of other breeds, but the protein content at the late stage of fattening should not be too high, so as not to affect the breeding. 4. The primiparous sows are appropriately postponed (9-10 months old) for breeding to prevent dystocia. In the late gestation period of the primiparous sow, proper feeding is lower than that of the bred pig, so that the nutrient requirement of the mother and child can be maintained. 5. First-time sows are injected with 1-2 prostaglandins two days before delivery and then injected with oxytocin at the time of delivery, which will help the sow production. 6. When the primiparous sows produce dystocia, artificial midwifery is required. According to the actual situation, the sow can be extended to about 6 weeks. 7. Weaned piglets are best kept in their original nests. In the process of catching pigs and rushing pigs, they must be caught slowly.
