The quality of the duckling directly relates to the duck's future breeding rate and production performance, so it is necessary to select only one by one at the time of purchase. First of all, to select young ducks with normal hatching dates, it is not appropriate to advance or delay the hatchers. Secondly, select healthy ducklings based on their appearance. Select the yellow pine fluff, clean, heavy, large and thick. The ducklings were moderate in size, soft in the belly, well-absorbed in the umbilicus, loud and lively, and resolutely removed the ducklings with disability such as blindness, steamed buns, lameness, big belly, and blood umbilicus. Transport of ducklings is also key to breeding ducklings. The newborn ducklings are best transported to the brooding house in 8 to 12 hours, and should not exceed 48 hours if they are transported for a long distance. It is better to have special hatchery boxes for young animals. There should be gaps between the hatchery boxes and the carriages and they should be separated by wooden frames to prevent the hatchery boxes from sliding. Carefully and steadily when handling the hatchery, avoid tilting. Carriages and youngsters must be disinfected in advance, especially when they are transported to prevent overhauls. When the newly born ducklings are dried, they can be shipped. For example, they can be covered with cotton wool or sheets. If it is hot, it should be transported in the morning or in the evening when it is cool, and bring rain cloth. Regardless of the season, the dynamics of the ducklings should be checked frequently during transportation. If the overheating is caused, the fluffy hair tide (commonly known as “sweat”, which is proved to be difficult to raise by the ducklings) is caused by overcrowding or poor ventilation. Such phenomena should be promptly taken measures. Long-distance transportation under adverse weather conditions can cause great stress on young ducklings. Sometimes, traditional quail-egg method can be used to replace the transportation of new-born ducklings. After 20 days of hatching, duck eggs are removed by inspection. Afterwards, they were packed in thick bamboo baskets with 200 to 300 baskets. The date of departure should be determined according to the distance, and it should be based on the principle of reaching the destination before hatching. Pay attention to prevent shock during transportation, keep the temperature appropriate, and turn eggs regularly to prevent the lower layer of eggs from overheating. After the eggs are transported to their destinations, they are inspected immediately and the dead eggs are picked out, and then the hatching is continued. There are also late-stage quail eggs and young ducks that are gradually hatching on their way to the destination.
